TOEFL Exam Pattern

The TOEFL test assesses English proficiency through four main sections:

1. Reading (35-36 questions, 35 minutes)
  • Passages from academic texts
  • Multiple-choice questions on main ideas, details, and vocabulary
2. Listening (28-39 questions, 36 minutes)
  • Conversations and lectures from academic settings
  • Answer questions on speaker intent, attitude, and details
3. Speaking (4 tasks, 16 minutes)
  • Independent task: Express an opinion
  • Integrated tasks: Respond based on reading and listening
4. Writing (2 tasks, 29 minutes)
  • Integrated task: Read a passage, listen to a lecture, and write a response
  • Independent task: Write an essay based on a given topic

TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test)

  • The most common and widely accepted version
  • Conducted online at test centre’s
  • Scores range from 0-120

TOEFL Essentials

  • A shorter and more flexible version of TOEFL iBT
  • Tests academic and general English skills
  • Less expensive and faster to complete

TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test)

  • Only available in locations where the iBT is not accessible
  • Does not include a speaking section

TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Program)

  • Used by universities and institutions for internal assessment
  • Not valid for visa or official admissions.
